The old facilities at the RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch Animal Centre, located in Chesterfield, Derbyshire need replacing urgently. The facilities at the Centre were built in the pre 1960’s and were therefore quiet old when acquired by the Branch, thanks to a legacy. The animal accommodation now falls well below current RSPCA welfare standards. The branch is fortunate enough to have the land, on our current site, to locate the new Animal Centre on whilst still continuing to operate the old facilities. The puppy block, which will cost in excess of 268,000, is a priority due to the current living quarters being totally inadequate; this will enable us to provide the enrichments of life that these little pups deserve. New facilities will improve dramatically all living conditions for the resident pups, dogs, kittens and cats and all the other small domestic animals and wildlife that come through our doors; enabling more efficient practices for the staff who care for the animals, and increase the throughput of unwanted pets into new loving homes. With your support, the victims of animal cruelty and unwanted pets have a better chance of receiving the kindness and care they deserve. All our life saving work has to be paid for by individuals’ donations, and that is why we need the backing of every single animal lover, wherever they may be. We really need the help of all animal lovers like you.

Situation
Planning Permission has now been granted but we only have 3 years to complete the project. The RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire branch Animal Centre is located in the small, rural, historic market town of Chesterfield. Being a predominantly mining and engineering area the town was hit particularly hard when coalmines closed and the engineering industry relocated. The RSPCA Animal Centre is licensed, by the National RSPCA, to house 50 dogs and 24 cats and as many small furies as we can find suitable accommodation for at any one time. In 2007, 1355 animals found sanctuary within our walls, 937 were found permanent, new homes, the rest being fostered or released back into the wild or remaining with us awaiting new homes. The Future Sufficient funding must be secured to enable the branch to continue the excellent Animal Welfare work that we already do. The rebuild will consist of: · A purpose built puppy house, with indoor sleeping area, under floor heating and attached exercise areas. · A purpose built cattery, with separate area for nursing mums and external exercise areas. · Adoption kennels, with indoor sleeping area, under floor heating and attached exercise areas. · Admission kennels, with indoor sleeping area, under floor heating and attached exercise areas. · Isolation facilities for sick and injured residents. · A purpose built miscellaneous unit. · Purpose built, covered, exercise areas. · A purpose built RSPCA Inspectors unit. · A purpose built administration area and veterinary room. · Hard standing area for fundraising events. · Ample car parking. · Public areas, garden with seating, disable access to the entire site. The contractors' will be given the task of landscaping the site in order to attract wildlife back to the area after the rebuild. The cost, from start to finish, which will include all construction, utilities, equipment, fixtures and fittings, professional and statutory fees, and contractors overheads, is expected to reach £4,000,00.00
