Carmel NNR in Carmathenshire, West Wales, is one of the UK's finest wildlife sites, home to thriving populations of rare plants and butterflies. It is about to be sold and is in danger of being fragmented or intensively grazed, its wildlife value destroyed. We want to buy it and protect it forever.

Situation
Carmel is under threat. Its owners have informed us that the nature reserve is to be sold in 2012. Unless The Grasslands Trust steps in to purchase the site now there is a very high risk that Carmel will become fragmented - sold in lots at auction - or bought by a local landowner and intensively grazed. Its wildlife value is in danger of being destroyed.
Solution
We want to secure Carmel's future forever. Our vision is to protect in perpetuity the wildlife which thrives here; to engage local people and to enable them to celebrate and nurture the extraordinary biodiversity on their doorstep and ensure that Carmel is their community grassland.
