To ensure bereaved families facing inquests following a sudden and unnatural death are supported through the investigation and inquest process so that they are not further traumatised by that experience. To ensure that they are able to ask the questions they need about their relative's death.

There is a lack of free high quality support and advice available to all bereaved people following deaths requiring an inquest. After deaths in any form of detention there is always an inquest with a jury where a family who cannot access good advice and support could find themselves alone at a complex legal proceeding facing many lawyers representing the institutions and individuals involved in the death.

By providing high quality specialist casework and advice to families whose relative has died in any form of detention and advice and a free copy of our Inquest Handbook to any bereaved family. As part of the specialist casework service we will also work alongside specialist lawyers who are members of our INQUEST Lawyers Group to ensure families interests are properly addressed during the investigation and inquest process.
