Volunteers add enormous value to our existing support of homeless young people. This project will enable us to engage with young people on a new level and ensure that they are receiving the best quality support to turn their lives around and make a positive contribution to society.

Situation
Homeless young people are amongst the most disadvantaged in our society. Strong evidence suggests that they are likely to have experienced abandonment, neglect or rejection which led to their homelessness and a corresponding inability to form meaningful relationships. They may never have had positive role models. This results in very vulnerable young people arriving at Centrepoint, with low self-esteem and confidence, that lack the skills and abilities to lead independent lives.
Solution
Traditional learning styles may not be the most effective way of learning for these young people and more interactive and creative ways of learning are needed to reach them effectively. Building on our existing volunteer scheme, we would now like to focus this activity by establishing a programme of Activities volunteering. This will link vulnerable homeless young people with individuals from the local community who will share their knowledge, skills and enthusiasm with young people.
