HELP US TO PRESERVE BRITAIN'S WILDLIFE AND WILD PLACES FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A WOODLAND RESERVE IN THE HEART OF ENGLAND, MANAGED BY LARGE HERBIVORES, FOR THE BENEFIT OF ENDANGERED ANIMALS IN THE UK

Wildwood is committed to protecting wildlife throughout Britain. Wildlife and the habitats that support them are under increasing pressure from development of the countryside for housing and industry, modern intensive agriculture, and unsuitable land management practices. Many species of bird and animals as well as rare plant species are under threat because of the loss of high quality habitats and habitat fragmentation, as the UK’s population and demands on the countryside continue to grow. Wildwood wants to reverse this decline in Britain’s biodiversity, and re-establish large herbivores that have been hunted to extinction in the recent past, in a large woodland nature reserve. The reserve will be managed by these re-introduced grazing animals, including deer, wild horses and ancient breeds of cattle, as it would have been 1,000 years ago. The woodland reserve would be open to the public, where people can meet nose to nose with the grazers. Such a “Wild wood” would create a safe and secure haven for so much of our threatened wildlife, preventing their extinction, as the action of grazing helps support and increase biodiversity. Wildwood is actively seeking funds to buy the woodland for the reserve, pay for restoration where the woodland is in poor condition, and provide for the upkeep of the grazing animals to be rintroduced. By saving this woodland wildlife habitat, our native species can once again be free to build a naturally diverse habitat.
