Giving World Online (GWO) has been set up by two sisters from Leicester concerned by the level of quality goods being sent to landfill. We were aware that many busy organizations often do not have the time or resources to search for charities that could benefit from goods so last December we launched www.givingworldonline.com - a virtual platform for redistributing surplus resources to the poorest people and making a huge and positive contribution to the environment. It’s a very simple process. Organisations with surplus goods advertise what is available on Giving World Online for free. Charities register, search the database of business surplus and receive it free of charge (excluding any transport costs) for distribution to the people they are working to help. This could be the homeless, women and children fleeing domestic violence, older people, children and families in need. In 2009 we saved 66 tonnes of goods from landfill, improving the lives of 65,000 people. We feel this is the best form of recycling - passing things on to the people who really need them. That's good for the environment and it’s good for everyone.
