LUCY stands for Life's Urgent Care of the Young. This charity provides life-saving air ambulance transfers for critically ill babies and children from local hospitals to relevant specialist medical units throughout the UK.

Certain very ill babies and children require time critical access to life saving support that is not available to them locally. Road transfer may not be appropriate, especially if significant distances are involved. There is a significant need for this specialised air transfer service. Existing air ambulances predominantly require their helicopters to provide trauma cover for roadside recovery within their defined areas.

Lucy Air Ambulance for Children is the UK’s first dedicated air ambulance service that transfers critically ill children from local hospitals to relevant specialist units through the UK. This service is provided at no cost to those children requiring hospital transfers by air, and is mobilised at the request of the senior medical staff co-ordinating their care. Having direct access to both rotary and fixed wing aircraft enables Lucy to undertake all transfers on the most appropriate platform.
