We'll engage communities and undertake activities to learn about and celebrate the natural and cultural heritage of the River Trent in Staffordshire and Derbyshire. Keywords: children, young people, families, wildlife, history, culture, art, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Rivers, Landscape, Burton
The river Trent used to be at the heart of communities in Staffordshire and Derbyshire but is now mainly forgotten. This is a landscape that is rich in natural and cultural heritage. There is evidence that people have lived in this area for more than 10,000 years and there are pockets of habitat where wildlife is abundant and thriving. Our aim is to create a living landscape where wildlife thrives and communities feel a connection to their natural and cultural heritage.
Over the next five years, part funded by a Heritage Lottery grant, a partnership of public, private and voluntary sector organisations will be working on a series of projects to enhance the landscape and connections to it. Projects will interpret the landscape for visitors using modern technology, engage communities through outreach work, involve families in stimulating activities, train young people in heritage skills, improve accessibility and record and protect the areas rich history.
