Twenty months of war have brought Yemen, already one of the poorest countries in the world, to breaking point. DEC member agencies and their partners are working to support the crisis across its 22 provinces where there is desperate need for food, malnutrition, water & sanitation services.

Situation
As a result of war in Yemen, people have lost their jobs and the economy has almost collapsed. Hospitals, schools and farms have been destroyed. Two thirds of the population (18.8 million out of 27.4 million) is in urgent need of of humanitarian assistance. This includes safe drinking water and sanitation services, medical treatment, emergency shelter and household items such as cooking equipment for those who lost their homes or have been forced to flee as a result of war.
Solution
DEC member charities are reaching millions of people across the country with lifesaving aid but much more needs to be done. Children face the greatest risk of starvation – almost half a million infants and young children need immediate treatment for severe acute malnutrition. In addition, a worsening cholera outbreak in some parts of the country must also be contained before it spreads. DEC member charities are ready to scale up and reach more people with water and sanitation services.
