New ballets are the beating heart of Birmingham Royal Ballet and are vital if we are to maintain our exceptional standards around the world. As part of the Shakespeare400 David Bintley will create a new Tempest, continuing the long relationship between ballet and Shakespeare.

Situation
In world ballet, the presentation of a handful of the most popular classical works has become the norm, with two hazardous effects. There is a danger that the creativity of the art-form will stagnate, restricting opportunities to bring new cultural influences to the stage, making ballet out of touch with modern audiences. Also, without opportunities to create and perform large-scale repertory, the skills that a classical ballet company requires to operate in a world-class arena are threatened.
Solution
Investing in The Tempest will increase BRB's repertory and further our reputation for maintaining the heritage of English Ballet, advancing the art-form through the creation of fresh and innovative new works. We are committed to ensuring that ballet has an exciting future, relevant to our audiences everywhere, and The Tempest will attract existing ballet enthusiasts and new audiences while providing the Company with dynamic new choreography to rehearse and portray.
