Evidence shows that children with severe disabilities are amongst the most vulnerable groups in the world, and are still frequently excluded from societies. In Georgia, cultural stigma towards disability persists, often leaving children and families isolated at home. In Tbilisi, many families rely on home-based care provided by HealthProm’s partner charity, First Step Georgia. First Step Georgia needs additional training for its professional teams which HealthProm has the expertise to provide.

Our project will develop the capacity and specialist skills of professionals providing home-based care to severely disabled children in Tbilisi. Working in partnership with local charity First Step Georgia, this will be achieved through designing and implementing customised trainings to strengthen skills in areas already identified through a local needs assessment. These include speech therapy and alternative communication methods, sensory processing disorders and support methods for parents.
