Situation
Our new Live at Home Community Support Hubs will tackle the increasing problem of social detachment amongst older people in ten specific locations in the UK. Social detachment is the term used when people lack active participation in their communities. The population of the UK is ageing and an increasing percentage of older people are living in isolation in their homes, with limited mobility, depression, loneliness and low self-esteem.
Solution
Each Community Hub will provide both social activities for more able-bodied older people and home visits and befriending for the housebound, as well as other lifeline contact. The Hubs will operate from one of MHA's housing schemes to provide a fully integrated service. The results of an independent evaluation of our existing Live at Home schemes concluded membership helps maintain physical and mental well-being and most participants have a brighter outlook as a result.
