Situation
The North Norfolk Railway currently serves the significant town of Sheringham, where it has a connection with the Network Rail route to Norwich but, at its other end, stops at a remote location a mile short of the town of Holt. For both the development of public transport and existing heritage/tourist services it is very important for the railway to reach this destination where it can ultimately provide a park and ride service for the resorts of Sheringham and Cromer and connection to Norwich.
Solution
The crucial thing is to secure the land necessary for the extension before it is lost. Some is privately owned and some publicly. Agreement to sell has been reached with the private owner and in principal agreement with the public one. Following the recent reconnection of the line to Network Rail at Sheringham, this will be a further step towards the gradual development of the Norfolk Orbital Railway.
