Snow-Camp are the UK’s only charity using a combination of snowsports, life-skills and vocational training to support inner-city young people. We put young people at the centre of our activities to address their needs and ambitions with the aim of supporting their development as individuals.
The UK has some of the highest levels of deprivation among the world's richest nations. As the gap between the rich and poor widens, 1 in 3 UK children do not have access to social and leisure activities (Unicef, 2017). We use snowsports to engage young people from low income backgrounds to help them overcome the limitations imposed by social issues. The young people we work with are from divided communities, are often involved in gangs, small crime, are at-risk of extremism and are NEET.
Snow-Camp’s Programmes provide young people with a positive, safe environment outside of their communities where they can build friendships and gain qualifications. For every hour on the slopes, the same amount of time is spent in our life-skills sessions which help young people reflect upon the skills they are demonstrating whilst learning to ski or snowboard. Upon completion of the Journey, young people are provided with volunteering and work placement opportunities.
