To empower villagers in Kanyike in Uganda to lead sustainable lives. When war ended in 1986, life had to be rebuilt: poverty was widespread and education and health care systems destroyed. HIV/Aids then hit Africa. Many children became orphans. The Kanyike Project aims to solve these problems.
Situation
Widespread poverty, illiteracy, contaminated water, illness and the HIV/AIDS epidemic in eight villages in the Mpigi district of Uganda.
Solution
Through capital expenditure to protect springs (1986) and repair them (2016); harvest rainwater (2015); build and maintain schools, both primary (1994) and nursery (2014); build a Dispensary (1996), now a Health Centre (2008) with piped water (2012-18); and through the on-going funding of health care teams (2004), mobile clinics and free treatment for those in need (2016) and especially by promoting sustainable lifestyles.
