FBB transforms the attitudes and aspirations of the disadvantaged students we work with. The holiday project will provide the opportunity to increase our involvement with the students and achieve consolidation of term-time impact and reinforcement of positive behavioural attitudes and performance.

During the term-time we work with disadvantaged children with behavioural issues at risk of exclusion. During the holidays these children may experience ‘holiday hunger’ without access to free school meals and become disillusioned due to limited holiday opportunity and stimulation, called ‘summer learning loss.’ This holiday period of inactivity may lead to deterioration in the progress achieved by FBB during the term-time. We want to use the programme to prevent this from happening.

The FBB designed holiday project will be available to enthusiastic children already engaged with FBB during the term-time. The children will participate in a project aimed at identifying whether there is adequate investment in football in their community. This will involve participation in focus groups, self-guided research and practical activities, culminating in the compilation of a final product for presentation. The classroom learning will be supplemented by football sessions.
