It is very lonely and confusing trying to rebuild your life in a strange country. How do you navigate a lot of systems including the education system, health and benefits systems and employment, not to mention finding a home for your family? How do you adjust to different foods, a new currency, customs you don’t understand and roads you don't know, when you have little English? It is a struggle to rebuild your life when you don't know anyone who you can trust and who can help you.

Canterbury Welcomes Refugees is made up of local volunteers, who spend time helping newcomers to get to know our community and the way things work in the UK. Local people share their knowledge and experience that helps refugee families to rebuild their lives and become indpendent and fruitful part of the local community. We also provide practical help, such as food, clothing, English language lessons and materials, interpreting and support for appointments and finding housing.
