Poverty, mental ill-health and domestic abuse are some of the reasons why we have rising numbers of children looked after in the care system. Many families in crisis don’t get the help they urgently need. More children could be raised safely and thrive within their family network, with grandparents and others, but this option is too often not explored. For children in care, the system breaks important relationships with their family and friends leaving them isolated.
Solution
Family Rights Group supports families through our free specialist advice service. We campaign for families to have their voices heard, be treated fairly and get help early before problems escalate. We champion kinship care as the best option for children who can’t remain at home and campaign for better support for kinship carers so the children they are raising can thrive. We promote practices that ensure children in care have positive, lifelong relationships with those who love them.
