Despite the fact that over 28 percent of Cyprus’ total surface has been designated as Natura 2000 network areas, there are many factors today threatening the integrity of the island’s natural ecosystems. Climate change, natural resources exploitation, inefficient waste management, and unsustainable land clearance and agriculture are all factors contributing to the quick degeneration of the island’s biodiversity and ecosystems, leading to an urgent need for conservation and restoration action.

In Cyprus Environment Foundation (CEF) we work with local communities to protect and enhance the natural ecosystems and biodiversity of Cyprus. CEF has access to a network of local nature experts, through which we assure that the local environmental projects of highest priority and impact are supported. Our experience shows that by supporting the best grassroot organizations and catalyzing connections between them, a more long-term environmental systemic change can be achieved.
