In Kathmandu, hundreds of girls work in dance bars, restaurants and massage parlours; many are forced to engage in sexual activities and some are trafficked to India. We want to directly rescue 10 girls and rehabilitate them, as well as deliver programmes to prevent trafficking in rural villages.

Situation
Human trafficking, particularly of women and children, is an ongoing problem in Nepal. Reports suggest that up to 15,000 are trafficked annually, both within Nepal and to other countries like India. Trafficked girls are compelled to work in restaurants, dance bars and massage parlours where they are sexually exploited, or they are forced into early marriages. Girls in rural villages are often targeted because their families are desperately poor - or because they are tricked on social media.
Solution
We will conduct covert observations to locate where girls are being held and exploited. We will then co-ordinate with local police to conduct a rescue operation. Girls are taken to our safe house where they receive medical care and counselling. We will reunite the girl with her family if it is safe to do so. Otherwise she will stay in our care. We will conduct anti-trafficking workshops and deliver interventions in rural schools which are proven to increase the attendance of female students.
