Situation
Extensive research demonstrates that regular participation in musical activities has a positive effect on children’s personal, emotional and cognitive development. However, music education in UK schools is inconsistent, and access requirements and financial barriers makes it especially difficult for those with disabilities, additional needs/health challenges to access live music in public venues. This places them at a structural disadvantage in a field that would benefit them most.
Solution
Through collaborating with education settings, the NHS and community partners we connect disadvantaged children with our professional musicians to work together on creative songwriting, exploring different instruments and musical styles, learning and performing new songs and having fun. Our bespoke training framework equips musicians with specialist skills/ experience to work effectively with young people facing disadvantage, using music as a tool to support health, wellbeing and development.
