    Situation

We have experienced a 128% increase in referrals to our service since the pandemic began. Lockdowns and restrictions over recent years have drastically increased the risks for victims and survivors of sexual and domestic abuse. Demand has been heightened also due to an increase in public awareness of the issues we respond to as a result of tragic high-profile cases and we continue to see referrals increasing. In Southampton, domestic abuse accounted for 35.5% of all violent crime during 2020/21.

    Solution

We work to help children, young people and adults at risk of and/or affected by interpersonal harm in particular domestic and/or sexual abuse (DSA) through services including information, advocacy, education and therapeutic support. This is to aid repair and recovery and improve mental health and well-being after abuse ends. We provide prevention and education activities, especially with young people and work within our community to raise awareness and where to go for help.
