Since 1921 we’ve supported musicians in times of crisis and opportunity - offering a range of support to help them survive life’s challenges and build a sustainable career. Whether through financial help, career development or mental health support, we are there for musicians when they need it most.

    Situation

Help Musicians supported over 20,000 musicians during the pandemic, but for many, the crisis had an enduring impact. Requests for mental health support have risen significantly, with calls rising 160% since 2020. Our goal for the challenge week is to provide vital funds for Music Minds Matter, our dedicated mental health service,. The Big Give can help us meet this demand. We have funded nearly 1,600 hours of counselling in the last three months alone, and we expect the cost of running Music Minds Matter will reach £1 million for the first time this year.

    Solution

Our service Music Minds Matter offers confidential support and information to those experiencing difficulties. Those in the music industry can call a helpline for advice and can be referred for specialist therapeutic support, comprising one-to-one counselling sessions. Rising referrals mean we need to fast-track more musicians to clinicians who can support their specific needs. A course of counselling costs around £1k – and we have seen the difference this can make to musicians.
