Eye diseases are the leading cause (82%) of sight loss among people who are registered blind or partially sighted. They can affect anyone of any age. There are over 26,000 visually impaired children in the UK and more than 2 million people are living with sight loss that has a profound impact on their daily life. Without breakthroughs in research, the number of people with sight loss is predicted to double by 2050. We’re working to make a different future.

While 20% of people will live with sight loss or blindness, only as little as 1.5% of public research funding is spent on eye disease. Sight Research UK is addressing an urgent need. From improving the diagnosis of retinal disease in young babies to exploring new treatments for age-related macular degeneration, we raise funds to invest in world-class research into any eye condition affecting children or adults – such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, and inherited retinal diseases.
