Family Fund’s ‘Your Opportunity’ programme provides grants for families on a low income caring for disabled and seriously ill young people aged 18-24 who are living at home. Thanks to the Christmas Challenge, we aim to help more families, more often – providing more opportunities for disabled young adults to reach their goals.

Disabled or seriously ill young people face a cliff edge when they reach the age of 18 - losing an average of 57% of the support and benefits they had before they reached adulthood. But they still have the same needs. It's essential that families can get help for their child to access education, transport, leisure, or other things that give a sense of purpose and fulfilment - thereby building a pathway to a positive future. Unfortunately, they often feel abandoned – left to cope alone and unsupported, with rising costs to pay for.

Family Fund’s Your Opportunity scheme is one of the few to provide support for disabled young adults aged between 18 and 24. It enables families to apply for funding to provide a range of opportunities to widen their adult child’s horizons, build their confidence and improve their quality of life. The programme funds a range of grants aimed at reducing the barriers faced by disabled young adults, including laptops and tablets, transport costs, vocational training, leisure and sport activities and much more.
