To support disadvantaged young people to work their way out of poverty through practical trades skills, strengthened life-skills and real work experience. From 2023 we want to train at least 300 young Zambians in construction skills each year.

Situation
64% of Zambia’s population lives below the poverty line: life is a daily struggle for survival. Youth unemployment is a key challenge with 66% of the population under 24 years old. Many are denied access to basic schooling or skills training, trapping them in a cycle of poverty. Zambia suffers a serious shortage of skills including the construction sector that needs an estimated 17,000 new workers each year. However, there just isn't enough training for young people to seize this opportunity.
Solution
Our Training into Work programme empowers unemployed young people through practical skills that are in demand. We have pioneered a simple and highly effective vocational training programme in building trades, shaped by local employers' needs to increase the prospects and employability of our young graduates. Life skills training is a key part of our courses so the trainees are work ready, with confidence and resilience. We also arrange work experience and provide career development support.
