Situation
Transport is the largest source of UK carbon dioxide emissions (34%). It is clear that we need a significant and urgent modal shift from polluting cars to active and sustainable forms of transport to reduce carbon emissions, air pollution and road danger. Safe and attractive infrastructure is essential to get more people walking and cycling. Local communities across Cambridgeshire need more support to develop and campaign for the improvements they need to make more active travel possible.
Solution
Better infrastructure is proven to increase rates of active travel. Local people have ideas for cycling and walking improvements, but often lack the technical and policy knowledge to develop proposals. Camcycle has helped many communities develop campaigns and supported them to successful outcomes. However, demand for this work is growing. We need a dedicated Infrastructure Campaigner to provide the support local people deserve and empower as many communities as possible to work for change.
