For many of the vulnerable young people at our Seed of Hope vocational training centres, the lunch they get at the centre is the only meal they'll get that day. A nutritious lunch not only means these young people don't go hungry, it boosts concentration and contributes to students' overall health.

Youth unemployment in Kenya is the highest in East Africa at 26% and 14-25 year-olds are most likely to be out of work. High levels of youth unemployment and poverty often lead to to high-risk situations for young people, particularly young women and girls, including early marriage, early pregnancy, survival sex and drug and alcohol abuse. Mainstream education and training isn't accessible to the most vulnerable young people in Kenya and doesn't provide all the support these young people need.

Our Seed of Hope programme provides vulnerable young people, mostly young women, with skills training in areas such as Fashion and Dressmaking, Carpentry and Joinery and Hair and Beauty. Young people are provided with all the things they need to succeed, including a personal development programme to build confidence and resilience and a nutritious lunch - often the only meal they will have that day. All this contribute to over 90% of our students being employed or self-employed upon graduation.
