Situation
• Few affordable engaging opportunities that appeal to what young people want/ need - around 38% of children in Westminster are recorded as living in poverty. • Few places to go that are safe and neutral with threats of high crime/ gang culture on estates. Westminster has one of the highest rates of violent and drug related crime in the whole of London. • Intense social media and device-led pressure and the challenges this can put on young people’s mental health • Covid-19 lockdown problems.
Solution
We aim to give local young people, aged 5 to adulthood and of diverse backgrounds, many on tight family budgets, the chance to thrive and give back to society by providing activities that are enabling, educational and participative in a safe, neutral environment. In response to Covid-19 lockdown, we are also developing a virtual provision, delivering activity packs to those in need and maintaining direct contact with members and their families to establish their needs and status during lockdown.
