Situation
In October 2018 we conducted a series of in-depth interviews with these now young adults, through which they conveyed a universal wish to be supported into vocational education to develop a sustainable livelihood. Over 80% of the target group suffer from mental health issues resulting from their marginalisation from birth, and as such we will tailor an individualised package of support for each participant which will include access to counselling which we have evidenced is critical.
Solution
The project will provide vocational education and psychosocial support to 40 youth born of genocide rape who otherwise are excluded from accessing it. It will support the group to complete their skills training, and relevant work placements, and do so at a high level of attainment, and generate an income, and thus improve their life prospects to support their future livelihoods – and equip them to support their families.
