Dementia is a debilitating condition affecting both the person with the disease and the carer. The challenges faced by the carer include terrible sadness and sense of loss as the person with dementia (usually a parent or a wife/husband) deteriorates before their eyes, and the carer is left frustrated, angry and feeling helpless whilst trying to support the deteriorating mental health of their loved one. This often also results in a negative impact on the mental health of the carer.

We provide social activities and trips to enable the person with dementia and their carer to experience some fun and entertainment and give them the opportunity to still feel part of their local community. At our cafes, music groups and trips out they meet other people, establish friendships outside of our activities and this peer-to peer support can be invaluable. The majority of our volunteers have first hand experience of caring for a person with dementia so fully understand the challenges.
