Period poverty—the inability to afford or access menstrual products—affects a growing number of people in the UK. A 2023 survey by ActionAid UK found that 21% of women and people who menstruate are now struggling to afford period products, up from 12% the previous year. This can lead to unsafe alternatives being used, and missed education or work, reduced mental and physical health and reinforces social and economic inequalities

Periods Matter tackles period poverty across Wolverhampton and the Black Country through free, non-means-tested distribution of period products via community centres, refuges, women's organisations and education establishments etc.. We run menstruation education workshops, raise awareness through advocacy, and partner with universities on research to inform lasting policy change. Our holistic approach reduces stigma and ensures that no one is held back because of their period.
