Local communities in the Global South bear the brunt of the climate crisis through the loss of land, natural resources, livelihoods and more – despite contributing the least to carbon emissions. At the same time, many of the proposed solutions to the climate change and environmental degradation, such as industrial-scale renewable energy, continue to privilege the few while often preventing marginalised communities’ access to natural resources, clean energy and their rights.

We support environmental initiatives designed and led by local communities directly. By providing small grants to grassroots groups, with support from our global network of expert local advisors, Global Greengrants Fund UK places the power directly in the hands of local people most impacted by climate change and environmental degradation. This enables them to protect and restore their own land, biodiversity, and natural resources whilst contributing to a more sustainable and equitable world.
