    Situation

Following stroke or brain injury, those impacted may face life changing challenges. People often experience isolation, low self esteem, depression, physical and cognitive challenges. Inequalities in communities are addressed as social economic deprivation and ethnicity is a major factor in the chances of having a stroke. This creative arts programme motivates people to engage with rehabilitation.

    Solution

To deliver and develop performance arts programmes. Initially support is given on hospital wards. Along with creative artists, a network of ambassadors use their lived experience and creative skills to help those who have recently experience a stroke through music, movement and poetry. The Brain Odysseys programme is a co-creation practice, co-produced across the voluntary, healthcare and arts sectors. By developing a creative patient voice, it advocates for an independent life.
