Winter is tough for disabled people. Having to choose between powering essential medical equipment like ventilators or putting food on the table. Needing to take medicine with food but unable to afford food. Last winter, almost half of all disabled people told us that they won’t turn on their heating due to soaring energy costs. In the last year we have seen almost a 20% increase in calls to our helpline from disabled people who are desperate for support and need our help and support.

Scope’s Helpline provides free, independent, impartial advice and support on issues that matter to disabled people and their families. We give advice on help with paying energy bills. We connect disabled people to Scope’s Disability Energy Support Service and Disability Utilities Service. We help disabled people with benefits advice and those struggling with debt. We offer money-saving tips around the home and travel to work. On a practical level, we can provide food vouchers and blankets.
