Over 247,000 badgers have been killed under the cull, pushing local populations towards extinction. The government pledged to end these “ineffective” culls but continued killing in 2024. The new Planning Bill now threatens to weaken badger protections further potentially allowing the killing of badgers for development. Badgers also face illegal persecution daily with thousands dying each year from wildlife crimes.. Every day, these iconic creatures are in a fight for survival.
Badger Trust is the leading voice for badgers in England and Wales, with a network of 50 affiliated local badger groups. This project will fund resources and campaigning to end the cull and stop the Planning and Infrastructure Bill in its current form. It will also help fund equipment and research to protect badgers, train groups in the rescue and rehabilitation of badgers and help police identify and prosecute wildlife crime.
