We are living in times of increasing global instability and conflict. Those who flee war and persecution and seek sanctuary in the UK face a number of challenges when they arrive here. These include: - Adapting to a new culture, customs and systems. - Mental health issues dealing with psychological trauma which is exacerbated by a dehumanising asylum process. - Social isolation and exclusion. - Language barriers preventing them from accessing services and integrating. - Financial insecurity.
Our advice and casework team provides free legal advice and support with accessing healthcare, housing, benefits and more. They also provide practical support such as food parcels and referrals to emergency accommodation. Our drop-in sessions and social activities help refugees to make friends, build confidence and improve their mental health. We also run English conversation classes, yoga and other activities to help clients connect with others, and we run homework clubs for school children.
