Portsmouth is among the most deprived areas in the South East and in the bottom 18% of local authorities in England. These statistics represent the everyday struggles of families and individuals which result in significant health inequalities across our city.   Poverty is both a cause and a consequence of poor health, lower educational attainment, housing insecurity and social isolation, limiting people’s choices and straining services. This level of poverty is both unacceptable and avoidable.

We work at the heart of our community to support residents facing financial hardship. We deliver practical and strategic solutions, aimed at both relieving immediate pressure and addressing the wider determinants of health to effect lasting, intergenerational change.  We're working to break the cycle of poverty and to lay the foundations for a fairer, healthier Portsmouth, enabling children, families, and communities to thrive now and for generations to come.
