One of the biggest issues families are facing in Malawi is securing enough to eat. Most of the population, especially those in rural areas, rely on small-scale farming to survive, but the changing and unpredictable climate is causing more and more harvests to fail - leaving many to go months without food. Food insecurity and poverty go on to impact the health, growth and school attendance of children, causing long term problems for their development, learning and future opportunities.
Open Arms' Graduation Programme has been designed to empower ultra-poor families, all caring for orphaned and vulnerable children, to end hunger, improve health, generate income, and achieve self-sufficiency in just 3 years. By equipping households with essential resources, skills and economic opportunities, the programme helps families 'graduate' from extreme poverty and dependence on external aid for good.
