Ndi Moyo Palliative Care Centre is a beacon of hope for those in Malawi suffering from cancers, HIV/AIDS & other painful diseases. We aim to relieve pain & symptoms, bring life to their remaining years & to train healthcare workers throughout Malawi in good palliative care delivery.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world with a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS & related cancers. Radiotherapy started only this year & most patients are diagnosed too late for cure. Palliative care coverage is patchy in sub-Saharan Africa with less than 1 in 20 of those in need receiving treatment. Many die in pain or anxiety about their children's future. Malawi aims to include palliative care in health provision but still has too few trained providers, particularly in rural areas.
Locally, Ndi Moyo delivers patient-centred, clinic & home-based palliative care to a population of 400,000 in Salima & runs annual training courses for medical staff across Malawi to initiate similar care in their own units. It uses low-cost methods, easily taught & replicated, with simple medicines, oral liquid morphine & nutritional support. Transport is paid for those needing chemotherapy. Children made vulnerable by parental illness are supplied with basic needs & school fees.
