Our rivers are failing. Only a third of UK and half of Irish river stretches reach good ecological health. The services rivers offer the natural world and society are under severe and growing threat, risking wildlife, communities, and the planet. Rivers are fundamental to life, providing the water we drink and use to grow food, creating nurturing spaces for wildlife and communities. When healthy, they mitigate damage from flooding and other impacts of climate change
Locally, our powerful, growing Rivers Trust Movement — over 60 member trusts — tackles ‘wellies-in-the-water’ restoration for healthier rivers. We connect landowners, farmers and businesses to deliver restoration projects and change practices. Nationally, we engage and empower the public to join the fight for healthy rivers, and advocate for better water system management at the highest level, pressing government and decision-makers to change policy and legislation for lasting, positive impact
