Habitat loss, pollution, flooding, drought, and climate change: our rivers are in serious trouble. Freshwater spaces boost our wellbeing and give homes to a huge range of vibrant wildlife, but they need our help to thrive. Together, we can secure a better future for rivers across the UK and Ireland.

Research has shown that rivers can boost our wellbeing and support an incredible diversity of wildlife. But these precious ecosystems are increasingly threatened by the impact of farming, water abstraction, sewage pollution, habitat loss, and climate change. Today, no river in England in Northern Ireland is in good overall health. At the same time brown trout - iconic native fish that should be found almost everywhere - have vanished from rivers where they once flourished for thousands of years.
The brown trout is a brilliant indicator of river health, and it uses every part of the habitat during its life. This means that improving rivers for brown trout benefits countless other wildlife species. We use data and hands-on experience to restore the health of rivers across the UK and Ireland. We upskill community groups, influence environmental regulators, and give expert advice to other charities. With your support, we will continue to build a future in which our rivers can truly thrive.
