WHO (2024) say 71% of deaths in Nepal, are due to noncommunicable diseases with cardiovascular diseases leading. WHO links two-thirds of premature deaths to modifiable risks like unhealthy lifestyles, poor hygiene, smoking, inactivity, and substance abuse. Due to a lack of education, rural marginalised communities lack awareness of these risks and basic first aid, leading to illness, disability, job loss and ultimately preventable deaths. Focused improvement is needed to meet Nepal's SDGs 2030.
Provision of Health Education (HE) Programs in marginalised rural villages in Suryabinayak Municipality to empower villagers to increase control over their health. The plan: train the Trainers, then support them to run monthly outreach HE sessions for Schools, Women's Groups & Community Groups, raising awareness of simple choices/changes that can be made to improve health and well-being. Also, promoting essential first aid skills. UNICEF (2020) states HE is the bedrock of healthy communities
