A healthy justice system is essential for a fair society, but access to justice is declining. Two in three people across England and Wales face legal issues, yet public funding of justice has been cut by 22% since 2010; 40% of family cases have no legal representation compared to 14% in 2013. Many represent themselves with life-changing outcomes like loss of housing or access to children. They need support to navigate rigid systems, once designed to protect them, now barriers to justice.

Across our 12 services in England and Wales, our trained volunteers provide practical and emotional support to those facing court alone. We help people understand legal processes, complete forms, prepare for hearings, attend court with them, and signpost to free legal advice. Our free and accessible support empowers our clients with the skills and knowledge to manage their case, ensuring they have the best chance of fair hearing and accessing justice.
