Akshaya Patra, meaning "inexhaustible pot," serves fresh, nutritious meals to thousands of children in London, to tackle hunger and malnutrition. The charity's flagship programme Hot Meals and Homework allows kids to focus on their education even as they enjoy a full vegetarian meal after school.

Situation
Over 300,000 children in London are at risk of missing their next meal. Reports say 700K, or 34% of all children living in London, live in absolute poverty after housing costs. Families are at serious risk of hunger and malnutrition, made worse by the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Malnutrition inhibits physical and mental development, the ability to perform or participate at school, and can also lead to mental health issues driven by stress and anxiety no child should suffer.
Solution
Akshaya Patra's mission is to ensure no child is deprived of an education due to hunger. We cook to serve nutritious meals to children of low-income families, at their places of education. With 700,000 meals served so far, and counting – our vegetarian, meals are cooked with 'surplus' compassion. The food travels in steel containers to support the planet and we are committed and prepared to reach as many children at risk of hunger in London, with a plate of fresh and tasty hot food.
