We are raising funds to support mental health and wellbeing activities for young people who live in rural and coastal north Northumberland.

Situation
A 2023 NHS report showed that one in five children aged 8-16 are likely to have a diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health condition. Waiting lists for Children & Young People Services in Northumberland are >12 months and there is a shortage of qualified therapists locally. Children living in our rural catchment do not have access to services that support their mental wellbeing. For many young people and teenagers, the only support available to them is offered through school.
Solution
We are raising funds to provide specialist mental health support at the Duchess's Community High School including counselling, sexual health advice and other activities that support young people with a range of complex needs including experience of trauma, depression, neurodiversity, self harming, risk taking, eating disorders, gender dysphoria, identity, bullying and alcohol/substance misuse. We will also support activities which promote diversity and inclusion in the school community.
