With just 13%, the UK has the lowest percentage of tree cover in Europe. Our once-thriving Forest ecosystems are teetering on the brink of collapse. As habitats decline countless species are under threat. 1 in 6 UK native plants and animals are threatened with extinction. People are also losing connection to nature, threatening the future of the Forest. In David Attenborough’s words “No one will protect what they don’t care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced.”
Helping us all survive this most challenging of seasons: The Forest is more than just trees. During winter our Forest Team nurture a mosaic of habitat including grassland, heathland, wetland, along with new and established woodland – which provide a much needed home to an array of wildlife including threatened species. During our darker months, we ensure the Forest is here for people to enjoy nature and we bring the magic of the Forest to disadvantaged children through outdoor learning programme
