Toynbee Hall is looking to continue its essential Play work with children in Tower Hamlets, to expand by providing 40 young people with life-skills programmes, and to provide a safe, social, and inspiring environment for members of the community of all ages to bring families together.

Tower Hamlets has the second highest percentage of children living in poverty in the UK, with many unable to access suitable recreational opportunities in which to socialise with others. 16–22-year-olds have told us that the cost-of-living crisis is negatively impacting the quality time they spend with their families and wider community – leading to worse mental health. They say that isolation and a lack of social cohesion makes finding their place in the community and wider world a major worry.
Toynbee Hall will build on its successful Play and older people’s programmes, integrating these with opportunities to bring young people closer to members of their community of all ages. Our experienced Play Lead will continue to run regular sessions for children and our community team will provide young people with a social space to congregate with their families, participating in enriching activities as community members and accessing the tools, knowledge, and skills to find their path.
