Responding to an urgent crisis in young people’s mental health, AT The Bus provides a group intervention using art as therapy in schools. This year we want to support 50 young people using creativity to build self-esteem, resilience and independence through the power of art.

One in five young people have poor mental health, and many struggle to engage in or attend school. They tell us they feel anxious and stressed, and that they find it hard to access support. With few providers and long waits for specialist mental health services, schools are struggling to help them. For many students AT The Bus is a lifeline: “I find it difficult to talk to people about my worries at home and in school, but talking here I can forget my worries.”

We will provide weekly group art-as-therapy sessions to 50 young people in school. They will share stories, food, and make individual and group art, reducing their anxieties and building self esteem. By transforming old objects into new treasures they will be empowered to follow their own interests, experience success and gain hope for the future.
