To date LawCare has helped over 10,000 people and thanks to 2022’s Big Give campaign we have provided extra support to those in the legal community in acute need of counselling which they could not afford themselves. However there is still much to do to protect legal minds and drive culture change.
Our research shows those in the legal sector are at high risk of burnout due to low workplace psychological safety, low autonomy and high levels of work intensity. 69% report experience of mental ill-health, with young professionals, women, those from minority ethnic groups and with disabilities most at risk. Demand for our support services has increased, with contacts citing issues such as stress, career concerns, bullying and financial worries due to the cost of living crisis.
We provide an emotional support service to everyone working or training in the legal sector through our helpline, email, online chat and peer support service. This service is led by trained volunteers who are or have worked in the law and thus understand the challenges faced by those working in it. We want to strengthen our support service provision by recruiting more volunteers to carry out this vital work and raise awareness of what we provide, to encourage more people to use it.
